Miotaseolaíocht na nGael
Parthalán
Insítear i miotas na meánaoise gurbh é Parthalán agus a mhuintir an chead dream a tháinig fo hÉirinn, ach go raibh n Fomhóraigh ann chéanna féin. De réir Seathrúin Chéitinne, tháinig siad dhá chéad bhliain roimhe sin, agus Cichol Gricenchos ina cheannaire, agus mhair ar iasc agus éineoil go dtí teacht Pharthaláin, ag tabhairt an chéachta agus daimh. Chloígh Parthalán Cichol sa Cath Maighe Iotha, ach d'éag a mhuintir go léir den phlá.

Neimheadh
Deirtear go raibh Éire neamháitithe le tríocha bliain tar éis bás Pharthaláin, ach nuair a tháinig ansin Neimheadh agus a mhuintir, bhuail siad leis na Fomhóraigh. Insíonn Céitinn níos eile ansin, gur fhir fharraige iad na Fomhóraigh as an Meánoirthear, sliocht de Caim mac Naoi. Chloígh Neimheadh iad i roinnt cathanna, agus mharaigh sé a ríthe Sengann agus Gann. D'éirigh ceannairí nua na bhFomhórach aníos ina n-ionad: Conand mac Faebar, a mhair i dTúr Conand ar Oileán Toraí, Dún na nGall; agus Morc mac Dela (dúradh gur mhac Dela iad muintir an chéad ghlúin de na Fir Bhoilg).

Tar éis bás Neimhidh, chuir Conand agus Morc a mhuintir faoi smacht agus d'éiligh cáin dhian: dhá thrian dá pháistí, a gcuid gráin agus a gcuid bólachta. Chruinnigh mac Neimhidh Fergus Lethderg arm de seasca míle fear, d'éirigh in éadan na bhFomhórach agus scrios túr Conand. D'ionsaigh Morc le cabhlach ollmhór, agus bhí ár mór ar gach taobh acu. Tháinig tonn tuile ansin agus bádh na hiarsmaí, a bheag nó a mhór. Níor éalaigh ach tríocha de mhuintir Neimhidh in aon long amháin, scaipthe anseo is ansiúd ar fud an domhain.

Fir Bhoilg
Ba iad na chéad ionraí eile ná na Fir Bhoilg, ach níor bhuail siadsan leis na Fomhóraigh.

Tuatha Dé Danann
Next, the Tuatha Dé Danann, who are usually supposed to have been the déithe of the Goidelic Irish, defeated the Fir Bolg in the first Cath Maighe Tuireadh and took possession of Ireland. Because their king, Nuada Airgeadlámh]], had lost an arm in the battle and was no longer physically whole, their first king in Ireland was the half-Fomhórach Bres. He was the result of a union between Ériu of the Tuatha Dé Danann and the Fomhóraigh prince Elatha, who had come to her one night by sea on a silver boat. Both Elatha and BresBreas are described as very beautiful. However, BresBreas turned out to be a bad king who forced the Tuatha Dé to work as slaves and pay tribute to the Fomhóraigh. He lost authority when he was satirised for neglecting his kingly duties of hospitality. Nuada was restored to the kingship after his arm was replaced with a working one of silver, but the Tuatha Dé's oppression by the Fomhóraigh continued.

BresBreas fled to his father, Elatha, and asked for his help to restore him to the kingship. Elatha refused, on the grounds that he should not seek to gain by foul means what he couldn't keep by fair. BresBreas instead turned to Balar, a more warlike Fomhóraigh chief living on ToryOileán IslandToraí, and raisedagus anchruinnigh armyarm.

The Tuatha Dé Danann also prepared for war, under another half-Fomhórach leader, Lugh. His father was Cian of the Tuatha Dé, and his mother was Balor's daughter Eithne. This is presented as a dynastic marriage in early texts, but folklore preserves a more elaborate story, reminiscent of the story of Perseus from GreekMiotaseolaíocht mythologyna Gréige. BalorBalar, who had been given a prophecy that he would be killed by his own grandson, locked Ethniu in a glass tower to keep her away from men. But when he stole Cian's magical cow, Cian got his revenge by gaining entry to the tower, with the help of a bandraoi called Biróg, and seduced her. She gave birth to triplets, which Balor ordered drowned. Two of the babies either died or turned into the first seals, but Biróg saved one, Lug, and gave him to Manannán and Tailte to foster. As an adult, Lug gained entry to Nuada's court through his mastery of every art, and was given command over the army.

The second BattleCath of MagMaighe TuiredTuireadh was fought between the Fomhóraigh under BalorBalar and the Tuatha Dé under Lug. BalorBalar killed Nuada with his terrible, poisonous eye that killed all it looked upon. LugLugh faced his grandfather, but as he was opening his eye LugLugh shot a sling-stone that drove his eye out the back of his head, wreaking havoc on the Fomhóraigh army behind. After BalorBalar's death the Fomhóraigh were defeated and driven into the sea.

The Tuatha Dé Danann and the Fomhóraigh are closely related. Neit, a god of war, is an ancestor of both.
