Plé:Cumann na nGaedheal

Cumann na nGaedheal an leagan ceart. Gaedheal is a first declination masculine, with the genitive singular Gaedhil, plural Gaedhil, genitive plural Gaedheal. First declination nouns end in a broad consonant in genitive plural. In the Caighdeán orthography, "ae" is regrettably irregular, because it is treated as one entity - a long é soundwhich is preceded _and_ followed by a broad consonant, and slenderness must be expressed by an extra -i-. Thus Gael ends in a broad consonant, albeit preceded by an -e-, and the plural nominative and singular genitive, which end in a slender vowel, are written Gaeil, with an extra -i-. Pre-Caighdeán orthography was in this respect more consistent: it used Gaedheal (NOT Gaedhael) for the forms ending in a broad l, which is preceded by the broad vowel -a-, as it well should. Nonetheless, Cumann na nGaedhael was used: en:Cumann_na_nGaedhael ("Different sources give different spellings of the name. The Department of the Taoiseach, the Fine Gael website, History Ireland and academic studies generally use ae rather than ea as the original spelling. That format is used here on that basis. The ea spelling, however, is consistent with Irish orthography."), so it would make sense to include it in the article. Grammatically incorrect or not, history is history.
