Plé:Oileáin Fháclainne
Regarding the article usage: The recommended form is not "Oileáin na Fáclainne", but "Oileáin Fháclainne". This suggests that "Fáclainn" is inherently definite without a definite article. Thus, "Na hOileáin Fháclainne" is wrong, because it puts an article before a noun that is already definite because of being followed by the genitive of a definite noun (i.e. illegal double article). And, if "Fháclainne" in "Oileáin Fháclainne" does not need an article to be definite, neither will "Fáclainn Thoir" or "Fáclainn Thiar" need it.
Personally, I would very much prefer "Oileáin na Fáclainne", "An Fháclainn Thoir", and "An Fháclainn Thiar", because they would fit in better with the usual article usage with foreign place-names ending in -lainn. However, I cannot make rules - I only enforce them. So, I bow to the usage suggested in Acmhainn.com, unhappy is uile agus atá mé léi. Panu Petteri Höglund 19:52, 15 Lúnasa 2007 (UTC)
