cuir in eagarThe old inscription was "Dúirt mé leat go raibh mé breoite" = told I you that was I ill?
The current inscription is "Dúirt mé leat go mé breoite" = told I you that I ill?
Does it still make sense in Irish?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spike_Milligan needs 'an authoritative third-party reliable source that explicitly describes the apparent error.
Any volunteers?

- Hi — I'm an admin here and can confirm your two translations above are correct. The new inscription isn't grammatical without the "raibh". I added a note to this effect to the Irish article. Maybe that's enough to allow you to update the English? Ádh mór / good luck! kscanne (plé) 20:24, 14 Deireadh Fómhair 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! Note that Google Translate mistranslates “raibh” as "were" and insists on putting in the missing "was":
- Nuair a fuair a bhean chéile bás in 2011, cuireadh inscríbhinn nua ar an leac uaighe, ach fágadh an focal “raibh” ar lár, agus is í “Dúirt mé leat go mé breoite” (sic) anois.

- When his wife died in 2011, a new inscription was placed on the tombstone, but the word "were" was omitted, and it now reads "I told you I was sick" (sic).
- [I like the sick (sic), though.] GeiknarF (plé) 08:54, 16 Deireadh Fómhair 2024 (UTC)
