Riarthóir sealadach

Hi all. This is just to let the community know that due to increasing issues with vandalism of recent times, a Wikimedia steward asked me to do some admin duties here for a short period. It's only temporary and is just to help out a bit. Some of you may already know me as User:Alison, sysop from the English Wikipedia and Irish Wiktionary. Just ask Pathoschild on Meta if there are any issues. As ever, check in with Gabriel first if he's about but I'll also be here regularly. Maith agaibh - Alison 18:32, 24 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fáilte Alison! Ach nach fearr Gaeilge bhriste, ná Béarla cliste? Éóg1916 13:10, 18 Samhain 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maith agat. Is fearr, gan dabht, ach ní féidir na ndaoine ar meta-wiki - na "stewards" - an Ghaelann a léigh agus bhí mé ag scriobh leo freisin :) - Alison 08:09, 21 Samhain 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nach bhfuil sách daoine ann anseo chun duine a chur ina riarthóir buan? Dalta 19:16, 9 Iúil 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ainmneacha as Gaeilge nó Béarla?

Ceist daoibh, a chairde - caidé an scéal le ainmneacha, cén leagan is fearr a úsáid - Gaeilge (má tá sé indéanta) nó Béarla? An bhfuil riail againn faoi seo? Ceapfainn go mbeadh an leagan Gaeilge níos fearr, ach ní baintear úsaid astu sa saol mór de ghnáth. --An Tóin Mór 18:28, 1 Nollaig 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dar liom, ba chóir an t-ainm Gaeilge a úsáid, má tá traidisiún agus údarás leis. Uaireanta, áfach, ní bhíonn i gceist le hainm Gaeilge ach iarracht shealadach, agus ba chóir gan a leithéid d'ainm a úsáid. Ar ndóigh, bíonn an litríocht Gaeilge ina treoir mhaith. Ní mór tuilleadh leabhar a léamh, le bheith eolach ar an úsáid agus ar fhorbairt na húsáide. Ar ndóigh, is fearr leathanaigh athsheolta a chur ar fáil dóibh siúd a théann ar lorg daoine faoin ainm Béarla. Panu Petteri Höglund 10:59, 4 Aibreán 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Moladh agam, má tá suim ann: b'fhéidir an dá cheann a úsáid don tideal ar leathanach. An t-ainm Gaeilge ar an fíor-leathanach, agus Béarla ar leathanach le #REDIRECT air - Lucideer 18:20, 22 Samhain 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comharbacht nó Comharbas?

Ar cheart dúinn caighdeán a leagan síos i leith an téarma seo sa Vicipéid, maidir le polaiteoirí, ríthe srl? Tá i gcomharbacht agus i gcomharbas araon le fáil ar focal.ie, cé go bhfuil i gcomharbas i bhfad Éireann níos coitianta ann. I gcomharbas amháin atá le fáil i bhFoclóir Uí Dhónaill, cé go luaitear comharbacht ann mar 'Variant'. Tá mé féin réchúiseach i leith an dá théarma a úsáid, ach má tá focal caighdeánach le bheith ann, is dóigh liom féin go dtugann Comharbas an chraobh leis. Bhur mbarúil? Rí na Vicipéide 16:15, 18 Eanáir 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A Rí, a chara, d'athraigh mise "i gcomharbas" go dtí "i gcomharbacht" i cuid de na hailt faoi na monarcaí a scríobh tú mar go bhfuilim féin i dtaithí ar "i gcomharbacht" a chloisteáil go minic maidir le duine a bheith ag teacht i gcomharbacht ar dhuine eile. Sular chur mé na hathruithe i bhfeidhm, bhreac mé "succeed" suas ar focal.ie agus séard a dúirt sé ná:
(become subsequent holder of office)
tar br i gcomharbacht ar
Rinne mé an dá fhrása a chuardach i Google agus tagann beagnach an líon céanna torthaí aníos don dá fhrása ach thug mé suntas go raibh "i gcomharbas" in úsáid go hiondúil maidir le rudaí seachas daoine ...."tháinig Acht Rialtais éigin i gcomharbas ar Acht eile"..... ach go raibh "i gcomharbacht" in úsáid níos minicí i gcás daoine ag teacht i gcomharbacht ar dhaoine eile. Is féidir liom an téarma a sheiceáil le cúpla comhghleacaí liom a bheadh níos eolaí ar na rudaí seo ná mé féin ach bunaithe ar an méid atá faighte amach go dtí seo agam, mholfainn cloí le "i gcomharbacht" nuair atáimid ag caint faoi daoine "ag succeedáil" daoine eile. B'fhéidir go bhfuil "i gcomharbas" níos feiliúnaí i gcás rudaí. Déanfaidh mé iarracht tuilleadh a fháil amach. Le meas, Nmacu 12:44, 20 Eanáir 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Go raibh maith agat Nmacu. Níl fadhb ar bith agamsa le comharbacht, más é sin is fearr leis an gcomhphobal anseo. Ach níor mhiste é a shoiléiriú. Rath ar an obair. Rí na Vicipéide 12:52, 20 Eanáir 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tá an dá leagan - tar i gcomharbas ar dhuine agus tar i gcomharbacht ar dhuine - in úsáid sa teanga bheo agus sa litríocht, agus ní cuimhin liom cé acu atá luaite mar phríomhfhoirm sa leagan iomlán d'fhoclóir Uí Dhónaill. Ní aithním féin aon difríocht ar leith eatarthu. Is dócha gur féidir tar chun comharbachta/comharbais ar dhuine a rá freisin, le fírinne. Panu Petteri Höglund 16:22, 22 Feabhra 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Teimpléid - Ceist ghinearálta

Tá sé tugtha faoi deara agam go mbíonn teimpléid dhátheangacha in úsáid ar roinnt de na vicíanna eile. Séard a bhíonn i gceist ná go n-aithníonn na teimpléid seo ainmneacha na n-athróg i dteanga dhúchais an vicí agus i mBéarla. Is é an buntáiste a bhaineann leis seo ná gur féidir cur i bhfeidhm teimpléad (m.sh. bosca sonraí éigin) a chóipeáil trasna ó Wikipedia agus ní gá ainmneacha na n-athróg a aistriú go Gaeilge - oibreoidh na hathróga i mBéarla - ach ar ndóigh beidh na lipéid do na hathróga i nGaeilge. Éiríonn an eagarthóireacht i bhfad níos éasca mar nach gá a bheith ag breacadh suas brí na n-athróg i gcónaí agus is féidir díriú isteach ar an ábhar a bheidh le feiceáil ar an leathanach a aistriú go Gaeilge. Ceapaim go mbeadh sé seo ach go háirithe úsáideach do núíosaigh. Tá sampla den cur i bhfeidhm seo le feiceáil ar an Vicipéid Chatalóineach: ca:Plantilla:Infobox_Software. Bhur dtuairimí? Nmacu 13:31, 30 Eanáir 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. An-suimiúil ar fad :) Is féidir linn an leagan seo a úsáid anseo freisin ach tá sé an-chasta ... beagnach ró-chasta. Saghas "tromluí cothabhála", b'fhéidir. An féidir linn triall a bhaint as ar Teimpléad:Bosca Sonraí Bogearraí? Déanfaidh mé an obair air, más maith leo ... - Alison 05:46, 31 Eanáir 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template:ErrorBar2

Tá mé ag bain triail as Template:ErrorBar2 a aistriú ón mBéarla chuig an nGaeilge, ach níl sé i gceart. An bhfuil a fhios ag éinne cad atá cearr leis? Teimpléad:BarraEarráide2.
Erigena 17:16, 13 Feabhra 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Brón orm. Bhreathnaigh mé air ach ní fheicim aon earráid sa chomhréir. Seans go mbaineann sé leis an léirmhínitheoir (interpreter)...b'fhéidir? Nmacu 22:50, 13 Feabhra 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ord Aibítreach

Is cosúil nach bhfuil aon chaighdeán ann ó thaobh córais le daoine a chur in ord aibítreach sna catagóirí. M.sh. má bhreathnaíonn tú ar Catagóir:Polaiteoirí na hÉireann, tá roinnt sloinntí "Ó Xxxx" liostáilte faoi "O" agus ansin roinnt eile faoin gcéad litir tar éis an "Ó". Éiríonn sé níos casta le "Ó hXxxx". Sna leabhair fóin, coinnítear iad seo ar fad faoi "O". Ar cheart cloí leis an gcaighdeán seo ar an Vicipéid? Tá mé i mbun roinnt athruithe ar chatagóirí na bpolaiteoirí faoi láthair agus ba mhaith liom cloí le caighdeán amháin nó ceann eile. Nmacu 22:53, 4 Márta 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Polaiteoirí na hÉireann

Maidir le ainmneacha na bpolaiteoirí, tháinig mé ar liosta ainmneacha oifigiúla na dTeachtaí Dála anseo. Molaim go gcloífeadh muid leis na leaganacha seo le haghaidh ainmneacha na bpolaiteoirí (tá an chuid is mó acu i nGaeilge). Nmacu 18:58, 7 Márta 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Daoine xxxxcha" nó "xxxaigh"?

A chairde! Nuair atáimid ag cruthú catagóirí nua, cé acu is fearr - sampla: Daoine Rúiseacha, nó Rúisigh? Daoine Sasanacha, nó Sasanaigh? agus ar aghaidh. --Antóin 18:55, 15 Aibreán 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As an dá rogha sin, mholfainn féin "Daoine xxxxcha" ach ceapaim go mbeadh ceachtar togha. Tá go leor catagóirí againn cheana a thosaíonn le "Daoine ..." ar nós "Daoine as Co. XXXX", "Daoine a rugadh i XXXX" srl. Anois a smaoiním faoi, sin rogha eile - "Daoine ón Rúis", "Daoine as Sasana", srl. Pé rogha a aontaítear, tá sé tábhachtach go gcloítear le modh amháin leis an rangú a dhéanamh. Le meas, Nmacu 20:12, 15 Aibreán 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bhuel, béinn sásta le aon as an trí rogha seo, ach caithfimid an riail chéanna as seo amach, mar a dúirt tú a chara. B'fhéidir an céad leagan mar seo, "Daoine xxxxcha", chun chloígh leis an leagan atá againn cheana. --Antóin 17:00, 17 Aibreán 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cloífimid leis sin, mar sin. Muna bhfuil tuairim eile ann ....? Le meas, Nmacu 20:19, 17 Aibreán 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Election Notice, Please Translate

The 2008 Board election committee announces the 2008 election process. Wikimedians will have the opportunity to elect one candidate from the Wikimedia community to serve as a representative on the Board of Trustees. The successful candidate will serve a one-year term, ending in July 2009.

Candidates may nominate themselves for election between May 8 and May 22, and the voting will occur between 1 June and 21 June. For more information on the voting and candidate requirements, see <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2008>.

The voting system to be used in this election has not yet been confirmed, however voting will be by secret ballot, and confidentiality will be strictly maintained.

Votes will again be cast and counted on a server owned by an independent, neutral third party, Software in the Public Interest (SPI). SPI will hold cryptographic keys and be responsible for tallying the votes and providing final vote counts to the Election Committee. SPI provided excellent help during the 2007 elections.

Further information can be found at <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2008/en>. Questions may be directed to the Election Committee at <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Board_elections/2008/en>. Meetup about and around less resourced languages

Hi, some of you might already know that we are going to have a meeting about and around less resourced languages on 31st of May 2008, which among others involves the Wikimedia projects, in particular Wikipedia. For most less resourced languages Wikipedia is the first collaborative project. We will talk also about tools, like Apertium which can help a lot, and about Betawiki for the localization of the User Interface of not only Wikipedias, but all Mediawiki projects in general. Furthermore you will be able to know about activities like the Open Nursery project which collects and creates contents, concentrating on less resourced languages, how elders work together with young people to keep their language alive, about kids in Africa who may not use their mother tongue at school. You will have the possibility to watch videos about topics which reach from how the UN and UNESCO see the actual language pictures to projects like a grammar checking engine, a successful localization project and some more topics.

Of course, all of you are invited to meet up with us in Cherasco (yes, there is a Wiki-Camp available) and those who cannot come are invited to follow us on web-tv (we are not sure now if we will be live or if the presentations will be online as soon as possible after they are on, but in any case you will be able to watch or the videos with relevant information or see us live.

  • Click here for the programme of the 31st of May
  • Click here for information about lodging and travel
  • Click here for the programme from 21st May to 1st June
  • Click here to watch the WEB-TV (right now there are just two videos, one slide show and the information for the wiki camp online – we are still working on the actual programming for the conference)

Well there is one more thing to tell you/to ask: of course it is very relevant for us as a foundation to know about the actual needs in your language community, why you find the projects you contribute to useful, what are your personal goals. You can post your comments under the programme of 31st May or send an e-mail with your notes to info [at] voxhumanitatis.org. Please note that Vox Humanitatis is non-politica. More info about us can be found at our website where you also find the projects we support, a link to our scope and a link to our members.

Should you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you for your attention and we hope to meet you soon!

Cheers :-) --SabineCretella 09:50, 29 Aibreán 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Translation request

I cannot find any translation request pages, but I was wondering if any of you would be interested in translating the en article on Doireann Ni Bhriain into Irish. Please let me know if it will be done on my talk page. Thank you! 24.161.236.13 22:38, 15 Meitheamh 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Promo/srl

Tar éis dom na ceisteanna seo ("Tell us about your Wikipedia") a fhreagairt, bhíos ag smaoineamh ar cúpla acu. Go háirithe: "Who supports you?" agus "What promotion of the project do you do?". Is dócha go bhfuil sé in ann dúinn (faoi dheireadh) roinnt "promotion" a dhéanamh. B'fhéidir. An bhfuil aithne nó caidreamh ag aon duine ar/leis an tÚdarás, nó an tOireachtas, nó bord/comhlacht a mbeadh in ann cabhair a thabhairt dúinn é sin a dhéanamh? New UK wikimedia chapter

A plan is in the works to found a new UK chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation, and we are currently gathering support from the community. If you are interesting in being part of this new UK chapter as a member, a board member or as someone with a general interest in the chapter, please head over to m:Wikimedia UK v2.0 and let us know. We also welcome help in making finishing touches to the plans. An election will be held shortly for the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board, which will take the chapter forward, starting to raise funds and generally supporting the Wikimedia community in the UK.
