Ag brath ar speiceas, bíonn dath buí, flannbhuí nó dath scothdhearg nó scothdhubh, agus go leor barraí bána nó paistí orthu. An t-iasc is mó, is féidir leis bheith 15–16 cm ar fad, cé gur ar éigean gur féidir leis an ceann is lú 7–8 cm a bhaint amach.

Tá Amphiprioninae dúchasach ó uiscí teo  an Aigein Indiaigh agus an Aigéin Chiúin, lena n-áirítear an Mhórsceir Bhacainneach agus an Mhuir Rua. Cé go bhfuil dáiltí srianta ag formhór na speiceas, tá cuid eile go forleathan. Maireann na héisc ag bun na farraigí éadomhaine i sceireanna foscacha nó i murlaigh éadomhain. Ní bhfuarthas aon iasc san Atlantach..[1]

Ainmhithe uiliteacha is ea na héisc seo agus is féidir leo bia neamhdhíleáite a ithe ón a n-óstach bundúin leice, agus soláthraíonn an t-ábhar faecach cothaithigh do na bundúin leice.

Cuimsíonn Amphiprioninae suas le 43% de thrádáil dhomhanda na n-iasc ornáideach mara, agus tagann 25% den thrádáil dhomhanda ó éisc a tógadh i mbraighdeanas, cé go bhfuil an chuid is mó gafa an fiántas,[4][5] atá freagrach as laghdú dlús i réimsí dúshaothraithe.[6]
