Stair
cuir in eagarBunaithe ar fhianaise ó Choobool Creek agus Kow Swamp, dealraíonn sé go raibh daoine Bundúchasacha ina gcónaí sa cheantar le 9,000 go 13,000 bliain anuas.[2][3] Lonnaigh na daoine Wemba-Wemba agus Wati-Wati sa réigiún seo, agus thug na Wemba-Wemba ‘Matakupaat’, nó ‘áit na bplatapas’ ar Swan Hill. Thug an dtaiscéalaí Thomas Mitchell an t-ainm reatha don áit, nuair a champáil sé ann, ar thaobh chnoic ar an 21 Meitheamh 1836.[4]
- "Among the reeds on the point of ground between the two rivers was a shallow lagoon where swans and other wild fowl so abounded that, although half a mile from our camp, their noise disturbed us through the night. I therefore named this somewhat remarkable and isolated feature Swan Hill, a point which may probably be found to mark the junction of two fine streams."[4]
