Uí Chaoimh
Clann Ghaelach is ea Uí Chaoimh as Contae Chorcaí, ach go háirithe timpeall na gceantar Mainistir Fhear Maí agus Dúiche Ealla. Príomhchlásal the primary sept na nEoghanacht Ghleanndamhnach a bhí iontu, ina ríthe na Mumhan ón 6ú go dtí an 8ú haoiseanna.
Stair
cuir in eagarMhair Caomh, sinsear eapainmneach na clainne, sa luath-chéad aois déag, de shliocht Chathail mhic Fhinghin, rí Mumhan mór le rá de chuid na 8ú haoise.
Maíonn Uí Chaoimh gurbh í an bandia Clíodhna a sinsear. Tá scéal mór le rá acu maidir lena pósadh le Caomh.[1] Bhí a deirfiúr Aibell in iomaíocht léi le haghaidh ghrá Chaoimh ach sa deireadh fuair Clíodhna an lámh in uachtar trí asarlaíocht.
Tá nasc láidir ag an gclann le Contae Chorcaí. Bhíodh a gcríocha dúchais suite feadh bhruacha na hAbhann Móire, gar do Mhainistir Fhear Maí. Ghlac siad páirt sna cogaí den dara haois déag idir Uí Chonchúir agus Eoghanachta.
Cuireadh as a dtuath dúchais iad le linn ionradh na Normannach ar Éirinn, agus bhog siad siar go dtí Dúiche Eala. Tugadh an t-ainm Pobal Uí Chaoimh dá dtuath nua, agus bhí lárionad a bpríomhchlann ag Dromach i nDrom Tairbh.
Ba iad Domhnall Ó Caoimh (bás c. 1655), who was prominent i nÉirí Amach 1641, agus a mac Captaen Daniel Ó Caoimh, a maraíodh ag troid ar son Séamais II i gCath Eachroma sa bhliain 1691, ina dtaoisigh dheireanacha na clainne. Coigistíodh a gcuid tailte sa bhliain 1703, agus díoladh iad leis an Hollow Blades Company.
Tá an sloinne an-choiteanta fós i bPobal Uí Chaoimh agus sna ceantair thart timpeall. Sa bhliain 1890, taifeadadh dhá thrian de bhreitheanna faoin sloinne i gContae Chorcaí.
Maraon le Géanna Fiáine eile, chuaigh Uí Chaoimh i seirbhís mhonarcaithe Caitliceacha na hEorpach. Sa bhliain 1740, glacadh Constantine Ó Caoimh (rugadh c. 1670) le huaslathas na Fraince as ucht a ginealaigh Éireannaigh agus a seirbhíse fada. Faightear an sloinne "Cuif" in Champagne i dtuaisceart na Fraince, sliochtaigh shaighdiúirí Uí Chaoimh.
